Economic Apocalypse?

September 18, 2008

Plenty of bad news, but I’m not yet worried about a complete market collapse, although I can sense panic approaching (and, thus, buying opportunities). Here are some interesting and, quite often, maddening articles about the current troubles.

From Slate, “Fannie Mae and the Vast Bipartisan Conspiracy: A List of Villains in Boldface,” essentially none of whom have been seriously (or even lightly) punished or called to heel.

From Investor’s Business Daily, “The Real Culprits in this Meltdown,” which seems a partisan piece that blames Clinton policies and cronies as the real catalysts back in the ’90s.

Two articles by Professor Nouriel Roubini (and at Wikipedia): “The Decline of the American Empire” (excerpts) and, in full, “The Coming US Consumption Bust.”

AIG founder Hank Greenberg‘s letter (PDF link) to the CEO Robert Willumstad under whose guidance the company has crashed and brought yet more government intervention and debt.
